Professor Guido Giusti, one of the world’s leading experts in the treatment of kidney and urinary stones, was recently a guest at the Quisisana Nursing Home in Rome for a high-profile educational event dedicated to penile prosthetic surgery. Welcomed by Dr Gabriele Antonini, a renowned expert in andrological and functional surgery, Professor Giusti took part in an intensive course on the implantation of hydraulic penile prostheses using an infrapubic approach, a codified technique that is increasingly becoming the gold standard in the treatment of refractory erectile dysfunction.
During the day, three consecutive hydraulic penile prosthesis implants were performed in just over two and a half hours, with an average of 20 minutes per operation. Professor Giusti said he was deeply impressed not only by the technical precision and speed of the procedures, but also by the organisation of the operating theatre and the synergy of the staff led by Dr Antonini.
‘It was an extremely interesting experience,’ said Giusti. ‘I was able to witness functional surgery performed with absolute mastery. The aesthetic and functional results achieved are of the highest standard.’
This meeting marks a possible starting point for future collaboration between Professor Giusti and Dr Antonini in the field of functional and rehabilitative urological surgery. Two Italian centres of excellence are ready to join forces to innovate and improve therapeutic options in urology. This is an important sign that dialogue between top-level specialists can open new avenues and bring tangible benefits to patients.
